Since 2015 Sculpture in the Paddock has been working with local primary and high school students in the Yass Valley. Our aim is to instill an interest in sculpture and the arts more broadly, to give regional students exposure to leading artists, new materials and the opportunity to create their own sculptures.
With the support of generous sponsors, we have been able to take students to the Sculpture Garden at the National Art Gallery in Canberra. Students are accompanied on this excursion by nationally recognised sculptors who then run a series of in-school workshops to assist the students in creating their own sculptural works. These student art works are then exhibited and available for sale in an indoor exhibition held concurrently with Sculpture in the Paddock. In 2017 this exhibition also toured to the ACT.
We look forward to working with a new group of students in 2018 and to showcasing their work in the new setting of the old shearer's quarters located at Shaw Vineyard Estate.
This program is coordinated by local sculptor, Al Phemister. We thank Al for his time, energy and dedication in bringing this vision to life each year. We also thank Rotary Club of Yass for their support of this program.
